Plastic Surgery Resident Advocacy Fellowship Program

Program Overview

The Plastic Surgery Resident Advocacy Fellowship offers plastic surgery residents in New York State hands-on experience in health policy and advocacy.

This fellowship provides structured training, direct engagement with lawmakers in Albany, and an opportunity to shape the future of plastic surgery through policy initiatives.

Fellowship Activities

Advocacy Training & Preparation
  • Training on the legislative process and NYSSPS policy priorities
  • Access to mentorship from physician leaders and government affairs experts



  • Meet with state legislators and policymakers
  • Participate in discussions with NYSSPS leadership
  • Present NYSSPS policy priorities and discuss their impact on plastic surgery
Policy Development Project
  • Each fellow will work on a specific advocacy initiative under NYSSPS guidance


Recognition and Leadership Development

Annual Meeting Recognition
  • Fellows will be honored with a Resident Advocacy Award at the NYSSPS Annual Meeting
  • Opportunity to present policy work and experience to NYSSPS members

Benefits and Support

Fellowship Award:

  • Three fellows will each receive a $500 award and travel expenses
Covered Expenses:
  • Transportation 
  • Hotel accommodations, meals, and event registration
  • Exclusive policy and advocacy training sessions

Eligibility 

  • Must be a plastic surgery resident in New York State
  • Must be a member of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons 
  • Must commit to participating in the NYSSPS or MSSNY Advocacy Day in Albany
