As THE voice for reconstructive and cosmetic surgery in the state, NY Plastic Surgery PAC fights for plastic surgeons and their patients.  Advocacy is a top priority for the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons, and NY Plastic Surgery PAC plays an integral role in our advocacy efforts, as it allows us to support, educate and influence state candidates who support NYSSP’s public policy goals. What is NYSSPS PAC?
NYSSPS PAC is a group of plastic surgeons who work together to raise money and make contributions to political campaigns. NYSSPS PAC only supports politicians who work to improve health care, patient care and the future of plastic surgery. Through this support, NYSSPS PAC helps elect individuals who promote policies that improve the lives of our physicians and our patients.

Why is NYSSPS PAC important to me?
Through NYSSPS PAC, NYSSPS members can speak with one voice so elected officials clearly hear our position on policies that affect our patients and specialty. A strong PAC allows us to impact change that will positively affect both you and your patients.

Where does my NYSSPS PAC contribution go?
100 percent of your personal contribution to NYSSPS PAC directly supports candidates who work to further NYSSP’s public policy issues. Every dollar raised is seen by members of the New York State legislature as further evidence that NYSSPS has the support of a strong network of like-minded physicians. Every dollar will better position our success in advocating on issues that will affect your practice and your patients.

The NYS Election Law places aggregate calendar year limits on the amount of political contributions that can be made by individuals and corporations.

  • An individual may contribute up to a total of $150,000.00 in a calendar year.
  • A corporation may contribute up to a total of $5,000.00 in a calendar year.
  • Sole Proprietorships, LLCs, PLLCs, LLPs and PLLPs and partnerships are treated as contributions from an individual for political contribution limits
  • A corporation usually has “PC”, “Inc.” or “Ltd” in its name.

How does NYSSPS PAC select which candidates to support?
NYSSPS PAC is managed by a Board of Directors. The Board meets regularly to discuss legislative issues, fundraising, and candidate distributions. During these meetings, NYSSPS PAC identifies politicians who have supported our public policy issues. The Board also takes member recommendations under consideration during this process.

Is there a limit on how much NYSSPS PAC can contribute to a candidate?
Each election has its own limits on the maximum contribution that a PAC can make to each candidate or to a candidate's committee.

  • For statewide elections, such as Governor, Lt. Governor, Comptroller, or Attorney General, the maximum the PAC may contribute for the primary election is an amount equal to the total number of enrolled voters in the candidate's party in the state multiplied by $.005. This contribution limit is capped at $22,600 and has a minimum of $7,500.
  • For a general election, a PAC can contribute up to $47,100.
  • For New York State Senate, a PAC may contribute up to $7,500 for the primary, and $11,800 for the general election to each candidate.
  • For the New York State Assembly, a PAC may contribute up to $4,700 for a primary and $4,700 for a general election.
  • For New York City offices of Mayor, Public Advocate, or Comptroller, a PAC can contribute for the primary an amount equal to the total number of enrolled voters in the candidates party in the city, multiplied by $.05. This formula has a maximum of $22,600 and a minimum of $7,500. For a general election of these positions, a PAC may contribute a maximum of $47,100.
