Every member of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons has the opportunity to provide input regarding the development of policies and positions impacting plastic surgeons and we encourage you to get involved!

Working with our Executive Council, NYSSPS members have created and advocated for Resolutions that have covered a variety of issues including:

    • Insurance Coverage for Congenital Anomalies
    • All Payer Database (APD) Not Appropriate as Reimbursement Standard
    • Protection of Clinical Decision Making and Ownership of Medical Practices
    • Percentage-Based Billing Services Arrangements

    What is a Resolution?

Resolutions set forth background information and propose a course of action or statement of policy.  Resolutions begin with background information ("Whereas" clause/s) and conclude with a specific proposal ("Resolved" clause/s).

When Crafting a Resolution Keep in Mind the Following:

    • What do I want to change?
    • Is there existing policy, statute or regulation?
    • Who can effect the desired change?
    • Are there potential allies?
    • What are the financial consequences?
If you would like to work directly with our Executive Council in crafting a resolution to submit at this year’s MSSNY House of Delegates Meeting, please email Babette Grey, Executive Director at nyssps@gmail.com

Draft Resolutions need to be submitted to NYSSPS for consideration by Friday, February 7, 2020

NYSSPS has worked together with MSSNY and other physician and patient advocacy groups in support of multiple pieces of legislation to reduce physicians’ administrative burden relating to ensuring their patients can receive the care and medications they need.

However, additional work and laws are still needed to reduce the need for unnecessary and repetitive prior authorizations that take time away from patient care delivery, as well as ensuring that current laws to reduce administrative burdens are being adhered to by health insurers.

Please take just a few minutes to complete the below survey and identify the impact prior authorizations have on your practice.

The gluteal fat grafting mortality rate is estimated to be the highest known for any cosmetic procedure.  Multi-society task force alerts have made suggestions to reduce the risk of mortality and the standard of care for this procedure is changing.

The New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons is pleased to have Lisa M. McCorkle, MSN, MBA, RN, CPHQ, CPPS, CPHRM, LNCC, Senior Patient Safety Risk Manager from The Doctors Company, Northeast Region address the membership at this year's dinner meeting on this topic on Monday, October 21, 2019.

Members will discern insightful knowledge through case review of adverse outcomes, identify best practice for rigorous and transparent informed consent discussion, and identify five strategies to integrate into your daily practice to reduce risks associated with gluteal fat grafting.

Today, Allergan announced that it is recalling its Biocell textured breast implants and tissue expanders.

The move follows increased scrutiny on textured breast implants and their connection to BIA-ALCL, an uncommon lymphoma that can develop around breast implants. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requested that Allergan recall specific models of its textured breast implants from the U.S. market due to the risk of BIA-ALCL, and Allergan agreed to voluntarily issue the recall as a precautionary measure.

Biocell saline-filled and silicone-filled textured implants and tissue expanders will no longer be distributed or sold in any market where they are currently available. The company urged healthcare providers to cease implanting its Biocell products and return any unused devices to Allergan.
